Why We Need Fellowship

1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Fellowship comes from the Greek word, KOINONIA, which means “ to share in common.” Christian fellowship is more than attending Church- it is “assimilating” into the body of believers, becoming“one” in worshiping, loving, caring and sharing.

Fellowship

Fellowship

              What is True Biblical Fellowship?

The word used in the Early Church, went far beyond occasional or regular gatherings, even though they met because of their common bond in Christ, and met at the same place and time, for a unified purpose. We learn in God’s word that fellowship is a HEART issue, something to be felt and expressed, and something very important to be a part of. It should occur apart from any program, schedule, or activity. It is to be a way of life for believers in Jesus Christ to want to be in each others company, to share things together and to help, and support each other both physically and spiritually. If one of the members hurt we share that burden.

Forgiveness: An Act and a Process

Onyx-Truth

Forgiveness: An Act and a Process

Think of the forgiveness process like making a purchase with a credit card. Imagine that you go to a jewelry counter, choose a beautiful diamond bracelet and slap down the plastic. You sign your name on the receipt, and the bracelet is yours. This illustrates the willful act of forgiveness.
Then comes the monthly  payments. Because you bought an expensive bracelet, you have to pay month to month over a long period. So you are both the individual who bought the jewelry and the person who continues to pay.
In the same way, forgiveness is both an act and process. You make a choice at a specific moment of time and the deal is sealed and done. But you choose over time to continune to extend the forgiveness. you make the installments required by your initial decision to forgive.

Selfishness

Selfishness

THE NUMBER ONE PROBLEM IN MARRIAGE

Our first commandment deals with the number one problem in marriage, a setback that cropped up in the garden with Adam and Eve.  Since then we’ve seen it continue all the way to the twenty-first century.  What is it?  Selfishness!
We all suffer from the sin of selfishness.  It lies at the heart of nearly every marital problem.  My close friend Gary Thomas says this in  his book Sacred marriage.
The first commandment calls us to do in marriage what the apostle Paul instructs all of us to do:  “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.”  (Philippians 2:3 NIV). Perhaps we can take some positive steps toward incorporating this commandment into our marriages if we look at the problem of selfishness as a disease.

A Comparison of Love vs Lust

love-cross-upside-down1 A Comparison of Love vs Lust

The difference between Love vs Lust has become difficult to recognize for many  in our society today. Everyone is born with the desire to find true love because we all understand that it is the one thing in life that will ever really truly fulfill us. However, the only ones who ever truly find it are those who understand that God is Love, and have a relationship with him.

Give God Something To Work With!

Old man hand holding a green young plant. Symbol of spring and ecology conceptGive God Something To Work With!

You have to participate in your own blessings. You have to do SOMETHING! It is amazing how people stretch their hands out for God’s blessing to just fall into them without preparation on their part. People talk about getting a degree, but they don’t take the necessary steps to do so. People talk about starting a ministry, but they don’t do anything toward the end. People talk about writing books, but they never pick up a pen to write the very first line. How are these things going to get done until you do something? How are you going to be blessed by God unless you do what He has commanded in His Word?

Obedience

Obedience – act or instance of submitting to the restraint or command of an authority; compliance with the demands or requests of someone  over us. The generals words for obedience is both Hebrew and Greek refer to hearing or hearkening to a superior authority. Another major Greek word includes the idea of submission to authority in the sense of arranging or ordering oneself under someone in a place of command. A third Greek word suggests obedience  that is a result more of persuasion than of submission.

Spiritual Growth #2

spiritual-growthSpiritual Growth #2

I want to propose that spiritual growth is intentional, not automatic.

Have you ever looked at a mature believer and wished you could be like him or her? Wouldn’t it be great to know the Bible and know how to pray and be able to lead people to Christ and exhibit joy, peace, goodness,  knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness and love? Most of us want instant growth, forgetting that what is behind a godly life is a person who has gone through struggles and trials. Spiritual development only comes through practicing spiritual disciples like time in the Word, prayer, fellowship, fasting, giving, witnessing and serving.
